Ice Jet Housing Families Needed

The Ice Jets are looking for housing families for its Midget U18AAA & U16AAA teams this upcoming season.  Billeting is a great way to develop some very special bonds and help support a budding hockey player with his career aspirations. The billeting family program is a hockey tradition all across North America , and can play a key role in developing a successful player and person. For many of the players, this will be their first time away from home and they will need a stable living environment for their move to Dallas . The players' ages range from 16 to 18, and they come to play with the Ice Jets with the hope of being recruited and offered a spot with a Junior A team and/or College team the following season.   Part of our commitment to our out of town players and their parents is to provide them with a good home.  The players often become just like one of the family. Their time with the billet family is a very important time of their lives. They are away from their friends and family, so their billets become their surrogate family. The players arrive from all over the United States in mid to late August and will be here until the end of the hockey season in late March or early April.  Living with a family away from home can be a rich and rewarding experience, and will impact a student-athlete on and off the ice. Lasting friendships can be forged for both the player and the families involved, and the relationships will be remembered for a lifetime.   Families often support the players by attending his games, supporting him and cheering him on, and he also supports the family in its endeavors.  The opportunity to make an impact on a young man and support his dreams is truly a terrific experience.  For many parents in our association their sons will one day move away to play hockey and will hope that a terrific family will welcome him into their home.  We ask that you consider opening your home and adopting a young hockey player with big dreams!

"We had a great experience billeting and have made life long friendships," says Don Lagrone. "Our player (Jackson McCue) that we housed had a positive influence on our children and really stepped up to take on the big brother role and a great role model.  We are looking forward to billeting again this season!"

"This opportunity to billet has brought into our life, a wonderful young man in Valterri, and his family" says Michelle Miller.  "This experience taught our family a lot and truly enriched our lives.  The hardest part of being a billet is that these young men eventually will leave… hopefully with us helping play a role in them achieving their goals."

"Billeting was a great chance for us to give back to the Ice Jets who helped play a big role in helping our son play junior hockey" says John Searfoss.  "Now that he is living away from home we recognize how important it is that he lives with a good family and are proud to have participated in the billeting experience ourselves."

"We have heard about many great stories from families who have billeted players and are looking forward to adopting our newest family member in August.  It is a chance for us to make a positive impact in a young mans life and that will be rewarding" says Allison Box.
