In 2002, Paul Taylor, Karson Kaebel, Ralph Searfoss and John Searfoss pioneered the concept to become the first serious hockey training program in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. For the past 10 years, Ice Jets hockey has continued this revolutionary training spirit on the path to becoming one of the top ice hockey training programs in the country.
On Monday, August 22, the Ice Jets will begin the 2011-2012 season, celebrating our 10th anniversary. The program has seen tremendous growth and forever influenced hockey in the Southwest.
Ice Jets History
In 2002, Ice Jets began specifically as a hockey training program for players ages Mite to Bantam. The first year program offered players a 16 week intense training program that started with 36 players and expanded throughout the years into an Association, from an Association to include an Academy, and, most recently, from the Association and Academy to adding a Junior ‘A’ team.
Ice Jets are pioneers and innovators, having been the first organization to offer a model of development unique to any across the country. This groundbreaking program in Texas initiated the Spring Training concept, having on-location off-ice training facilities, off-ice training with every practice and a hands-on approach with professional coaches to guide young players through every step of the way in their development.
Prior to 2002, the primary emphasis of all hockey development in Dallas was focused around on-ice practice and games. This development model made it difficult for athletes to reach their full potential, because players only practiced a couple times a week and therefore it was difficult to compete against the best players and teams across the country. To offer players a more intense training model, the Ice Jets designed a high-intensity training system that focused on hardcore skill training both on and off the ice. This innovative approach has not only raised the bar for hockey in Texas, but has set the standard as to what is now being offered by many programs across the country. Because of our success and proven methods, many other hockey organizations in Dallas and beyond base their model off of a similar approach to what the Ice Jets began 10 years ago.
Continuing the practice of innovation in hockey, last season the Ice Jets started the first hockey academy program in Texas. Not believing that youth hockey players should have to choose between academics and athletics, but should excel at both, the Ice Jets Academy was born. The Academy offers players the opportunity to practice 5 days a week, four hours every day with both on and off-ice instruction. The more training, the more opportunities for the player.
2011 – 2012 Tenth Anniversary Season
In this tenth season of Ice Jets Hockey, we plan to continue our proven training program with goals for expansion of training opportunities and facilities for our players. An exciting example of this is the new implementation of Taekwondo throughout the Ice Jets Academy.
Our tenth season will continue to develop talented youth hockey players, strengthen the partnership of education and athletics in our Academy program, and further the success of all our teams and individual players at every level. The new Junior ‘A’ team now provides the opportunity to advance players directly to college hockey, an invaluable path that allows players to meet their educational and athletic goals.
In the past decade, Ice Jets has shown Texas that you can achieve your goals in college and hockey with correct and intense training. We’ve developed youth hockey players and advanced them to Junior ‘A’ teams, to college and to the NHL. We will continue this tradition of excellence!
Thank you
We would like to extend a special thank you to all of you who have supported the Ice Jets organization and players throughout the past decade. Because of your dedication, kindness and generosity, thousands of players have realized their dreams. We appreciate your support!
