Ice Jets Hockey
Tryouts are almost over and summer has just begun. During this time of the year, things run a little differently for kids than the other nine months when school is in session. Most students are now taking it easy, lounging, having fun with their friends, traveling, swimming, biking and anything else that comes to mind when you hear the words “Summer Break.”
But for young athletes these summer months are also considered their “Off Season.” It can be difficult to choose to train and work on your hockey skills when your friends may not have that responsibility. We understand! We don’t want you to give up your summer. It may be a little tricky to find a happy medium between your friends, family and hockey training during the summer months, but it’s possible if you keep one word in mind – Balance.
To achieve balance during your off season, have a plan. Go into summer knowing the areas you need to work on and create a plan of when to train and when to work on skill development. Whether it’s a daily routine or a weekly schedule, set some time aside specifically for yourself and hockey.
Having a plan will allow you plenty of time for summer fun with your friends and family while still keeping you responsible for your own development. Players who manage their time effectively can squeeze in a few hours a week at minimum to work on some shooting and stickhandling and play other sports to keep up their conditioning.
We want you to enjoy your summer, so spend time with your friends and family, bask in the hot weather and sunshine, and prepare your mind and your body for a great upcoming season with the Ice Jets!
