Dr. Jack Blatherwick accepted an invitation from the Ice Jets to visit our hockey association and new Jets Academy April 3. Dr. Blatherwick is a world-renowned physiologist and played an instrumental role in helping lead the 1980 Team USA to a Gold Medal in Lake Placid. Dr. Blatherwick is currently employed by the Washington Capitals as their strength and conditioning coach. He is also a columnist for hockey magazines including “Lets Play Hockey."

Dr. Blatherwick observed and interacted with players at the April 3 Ice Jets Combine and Talent Identification Camp.

"We are just thrilled that Jack would take the time out of his schedule to evaluate our program and give Dallas players a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet him," said Hockey Director Karson Kaebel."

"All the young hockey players who have watched the movie "Miracle" will have a chance to be introduced to the mastermind behind the training Herb Brooks used for his team" added Ice Jets Hockey Director Paul Taylor. “And it will be awesome for kids to be with a coach who trains reigning MVP and Capitals star Alex Ovechkin.”

Dr. Blatherwick has a Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Minnesota. He has 40 years of experience from Olympic, NHL, and collegiate teams. He was the team physiologist for the Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars and currently works for the Washington Capitals. He was also a coach/physiologist on the U.S. Olympic hockey teams in 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1994.

Herb Brooks once proclaimed Dr. Jack Blatherwick as the best hockey training physiologist in the world. “Jack was way ahead of his time in hockey training" said Brooks.
